Jennifer Pizzini

I am a Barton tutor with nine years of experience teaching the Barton Reading and Spelling System. I am an educator dedicated to making a difference in the lives of children and adolescents with dyslexia or learning differences.

As a mother of a child with profound dyslexia, I uniquely understand your concerns. I am passionate about helping children and adolescents with dyslexia and those suspected of having dyslexia. I utilize proven techniques and research-based instruction designed to improve academic success. The Barton System contains all of the essential components of reading instruction required by the No Child Left Behind Act and meets the National Institutes of Health’s description of best practices for students with dyslexia. It will significantly increase the reading, writing, and spelling skills of children with or without a diagnosis of dyslexia.

Children that I specialize in struggle with spelling. They can’t retain their spelling words from one week to the next, and they can’t spell when writing sentences or stories, not even high frequency words like because, friend, and does. And although they can all read (up to a point), they have great difficulty sounding out an unknown word, despite being taught phonics.
If this sounds like your child, I can help. I am a tutor certified in the Barton system, a program designed to help those who struggle with reading and spelling learn to read and spell in a way that makes sense.
I believe that children do their best learning when they feel relaxed and positive. I structure my sessions to be sure my students feel successful every step of the way.
I provide both in person tutoring in the Bay Area, and remote tutoring throughout the United States. I look forward to hearing from you!

Grace Gonzales Smelser

My teaching experience is eight years in Kindergarten and First grades. I have been a private tutor for the past four years. It’s very satisfying helping small children gain academic confidence in their reading and math skills. After doing an informal academic assessment, getting your input, reviewing progress reports and or teacher recommendations, a tutoring plan will be created and discussed with you. In my sessions, I utilize many hands-on materials, games, reading books, workbooks, etc. to meet the needs of your child from grades PreK-2nd. The tutoring session can be at their school, the library or at a coffee shop.
