Support Education in Texas Via Scholarships for Homeschool Students
The year 2020 will go down as “one for the history books”. In the spring, we shut down our lives and our economy to try to stop the pandemic. One restriction after another was placed on our nation and the world. They told us where we could go, protocols to follow and then we experienced the shortages: toilet paper, hand sanitizer/Clorox wipes, hand soap, meat, produce, and so on. The challenges faced this year have been unprecedented due to COVID-19 restrictions. It has been a year of changes and challenges. Amid these come opportunities to rise up and overcome the obstacles before you.
We have seen record numbers of individuals and families who have chosen to prevail. Many of whom contacted us during this time of transition. Families who were forced to school at home, found themselves loving the time at home, getting to know their children. We experienced a high volume of calls, emails, and social media messages, asking for help from families beginning their homeschool journey. We quickly adapted with the tools available and offered orientations via Zoom or in the office, practicing social distancing.
During the COVID shut down, we did not receive our grant for the FEAST Summer Reading program or academic scholarships. Again, we found a way to make the Summer Reading happen even without funding. We created systems to take the book reports online and gave virtual awards
for reports submitted. Unfortunately, we were unable to fund academic scholarships. Even so we were able to direct these families to used book sales and free online curriculum options.
To say that this has been a very difficult year for all is an understatement! What is not an understatement, but a reality, is the fact that FEAST has been called to provide information and resources at an increased rate of over 330% to families during the pandemic.
This year, more than ever, we need your support to further our mission!
Why do we need your help now? Because we know the type of students that homeschooling produces. We know that given the right tools, parents are excellent teachers and students thrive under their instruction. Families are closer and stronger and that translates into well balanced happy individuals that are well suited to step into leadership roles within our communities. We also know that a majority of families have gone from being two-income families to one income allowing one parent to stay home and educate their children. Money is tight and, in some cases, render the parents unable to spend basic funds for homeschooling necessities. These parents are using the library, borrowed books and also the internet to provide the educational content for their children’s homeschooling needs.
Your gifts can make the difference in the lives of these families.
Please consider adding FEAST to your Christmas list this year and send in a tax-deductible contribution. 2020 was loaded with distractions for our homeschooling families, but FEAST was there to help all along the way. Although details of 2021 are still an unknown, we do know FEAST would like to continue to be there to help in any time of need. Your contribution can help us do that.
