Congratulations to the Winners
of the 2019 Spelling Bee

Congratulations to all of the FEAST Spelling Bee Participants! It was so exciting to see you brave round after round of spelling words to achieve placing in the three categories that receive recognition! We are so thankful for our special guest pronouncer, Mr. Mike Harris, our judges, Vera Billingsley, and Ann Marie Vasquez and our faithful Spelling Bee Coordinator, Estela Frias. We also appreciate all volunteers and FEAST Staff that helped make Spelling Bee so special for our children. Thank you also to the parents that worked so diligently with their children to help them reach this worthy goal of competing in the 2019 FEAST Spelling Bee!

Division 1 Winners: Reagan Motz was our third place winner. Jonathan Brucks and Andrew Hurlin endured 3 rounds of words, for a total of 17 rounds altogether, with Jonathan Brucks emerging as the first place winner and Andrew Hurlin coming in second.

Division 2 Winners: Elizabeth Hurlin became our third place winner leaving Nathan de Koning and Christian Hurlin to contend for first place. As Nathan and Christian went toe to toe for 9 more rounds, of which these two bright young men endured 58 rounds in this division, Christian Hurlin emerged as the first place winner and Nathan took second place.

Congratulations Christian Hurlin! We are so excited to have you representing FEAST as you move on to the next level! The 66th Annual Regional Scripps Spelling Bee sponsored by the San Antonio Express-News will take place at UTSA Downtown Campus on Sunday, March 17 from 1pm-3pm. We are praying that Christian will be among the winners to move on to compete at the 2019 National Scripps Spelling Bee near Washington, D.C.

If your child has never participated in Spelling Bee, put that on your list for next year and come join the fun!

Last year’s winner!

The 2018 FEAST Spelling Bee was blessed with 19 participants from 2nd to 8th grade level.
We want to congratulate the participants, who in reality are all winners; however, due to the fact that there can only be
three place awards, here are the winners for Division 1:
1. First Place: Olivia Greco
2. Second Place: Melody Minica
3. Third Place: Jonathan Brucks
Division 2 was interesting to witness, as Ellen Forman and Christian Hurlin, after the 18th round, became the contenders for the Championship. These two were tremendous, having spelled for 52 rounds before it was decided that a tie-breaker was in order; and the word rhododendron secured the Championship for Ellen. We cheer her on to victory at the San Antonio Express-News Regional Spelling Bee to be held on February 17, 2018 at the San Antonio, College-McAllister
Auditorium located at 1300 San Pedro Avenue.
1. First Place: Ellen Forman
2. Second Place: Christian Hurlin
3. Third Place: Madeline Price
These were our participants of Division 1.
