Enemy Pie, Reading of
November 19, 2020 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
Don’t let the name of the book and pie fool you; this Enemy Pie event was all about learning how to make friends and having fun! Friends of FEAST ages 7-10 joined us at the beautiful grounds of the Denman Estate for a lesson in making pie and a friend or two! Parents and kids alike had a blast participating in a reading of Derek Munson’s Enemy Pie.
After the interactive read-aloud, participants got involved in safe, outdoor fun. Students sharpened their friendship building skills by learning how to communicate with their friend in a partner drawing activity. They learned how to start conversations and find things they have in common with a game of “Roll the Dice and Share a Slice” and learned it’s okay to just be silly and have fun with the final game of “Shake Your Tail Feathers.” It was hard to pull them away from this final friendship-building activity, but an invitation to eat pie did the trick!
With respect to COVID-19 restrictions, friends and parents feasted on the infamous enemy (cherry) pie and a variety of other tasty pies. While the kids were at play and snacking away, the parents formed some new friendships as well. They exchanged both numbers and homeschooling tips with one another.
As with every FEAST read-aloud activity, parents received a folder with language arts lessons designed to be an extension of the days reading and friendship building lessons. Kids and parents alike enjoyed a day at FEAST’s Urban Outdoor Classroom and are looking forward to future events. Be on the lookout for our Cowboy Camp read-aloud fun scheduled for our elementary friends in February!
