Optimist Club of San Antonio
Optimist International Oratorical Contest 2017
Presentation on March 30
Application Deadline March 20
The Optimist Club of San Antonio would like to invite your students to speak their minds about the topic “What the World Gains from Optimism.” The Oratorical Contest will take place Thursday evening, March 30, 2017. This oratorical contest is open to students under 17 as of October 1, 2016 and who are educated in the United States, Canada or the Caribbean. This contest is designed to assist youth in gaining public speaking experience and provide them with an opportunity to compete for $2,500 scholarships.
Students are required to prepare a 4 – 5 minute speech on the pre-assigned topic above. Students do not send in their speech; instead they practice at home, and on presentation day, students will bring two hand written or typed copies of their presentation. Students do not need to memorize their speeches and may use notes or cue cards during presentation. At the presentation, all students will all be in one room with their guests, parents and families in attendance. A podium will be available. Three judges will be in attendance from the Optimist Club of San Antonio to judge the local students’ speeches based on content and presentation to determine the top winners. Winners from the club advance to Zone, Region and District finals.
