FEAST Softball Celebrates with End-of-Season Banquet!

FEAST Softball celebrated its State and NACA National Championship season with a wonderful team banquet. Fellowship, food and fun were had by all!

Nine new varsity players received their varsity letters, and the three departing seniors were recognized. All three seniors will be continuing their education at the next level. The team banquet was a fantastic close to an amazing season.

And oh, what a season it was! While not perfect (26-10), expectations were exceeded by winning State and NACA National championships. It’s not every season the “perfect storm” of players, coaches, and parents come together to accomplish great things, but that is exactly what happened with the 2022 FEAST Patriots. With a .406 team batting average, 26 home runs, 365 runs scored, 873 batters faced, and 159 strikeouts, the FEAST softball team found themselves state and national champions. Through hot practices, cold rainy games, and uncounted miles on the road, the team peaked at the perfect time to come together and win big. After it’s all said and done, the wins and losses don’t matter, but the fellowship and growth that these young ladies experienced this season will live with them forever.

FEAST Softball Takes Nationals!!
FEAST Softball earned the 2022 National Association of Christian Athletes (NACA) Softball Championship!

Setting an early season goal of competing at a national event, FEAST Softball exceeded expectations by dominating the nationals tournament held in mid-May in Tennessee. The team won all games on day one finishing with a 3-0 record and a 32-8 run differential. FEAST set themselves up well as the #1 seed! Friday’s semifinal game was a tight one: tied in the bottom of the 4th inning, FEAST busted open the stalemate with a 2-run, 225ft bomb of a home run! FEAST won the contest 7-4 to advance to the championship game.
FEAST Softball entered the championship game versus a familiar foe: Homeschool Christian Youth Association (HCYA) from Houston. In the previous three contests FEAST prevailed, but knew HCYA had an ace pitcher up their sleeve. As expected, HCYA put their star on the mound who had not previously pitched against FEAST. After scoring one run in the bottom of the first inning, FEAST persevered and never relinquished the lead. With a solid team effort, HCYA’s star pitcher was pulled off the mound in the 4th after giving up 7 runs on 8 hits from 7 different batters. There was a scare in the 5th inning when the score was tightened to 7-5 by HCYA with enough time remaining to force another inning. In the 6th, FEAST bent but didn’t break when we allowed the bases to get loaded, but HYCA stranded all 3 with no more runs scored. FEAST prevailed in the game with a final score of 7 to 5 to become the 2022 NACA National Champions! Watch game highlights here and congratulations, FEAST Softball – GO PATRIOTS!!!

Your FEAST Patriot Softball Girls are 🥎 STATE CHAMPIONS!!

After a few decisive victories over KIPP, SACs, Brooks Academy, and a tough loss versus Cornerstone, FEAST Softball went into the state championship tournament confident. As hosts of the tournament in Seguin, TX April 1-2, FEAST started the day with a statement win over HSAA 16-3. Rolling that momentum into game two, our Patriots came away with a 6-3 victory against the defending state and national champion HYCA! FEAST finished Friday’s games with a 3-0 record, defeating THESA 8-3 and securing a spot in the championship game on Saturday. In the championship game, FEAST jumped ahead early with a 3-0 lead after the first inning and never lost control. Hits were plenty, but runs were few for the rest of the tight contest. Scoring just four runs on 10 hits, FEAST outlasted HCYA in the rubber match with a 4 to 2 win for their first ever state championship!

Not to be outdone by earning a state championship, the next week FEAST defeated D’Hanis, the defending 2019 Texas 1A champions and 2021 Runner Up. Earning their respect, D’Hanis requested a rematch to help prepare them for another 1A title run.
With the excitement of defeating the defending national champions, FEAST’s confidence and goals are high as we look ahead to the Softball National Championship in Tennessee next month!

FEAST Patriot Softball 🥎 is Going STRONG!
With the bulk of our season scheduled in February, we’ve had a hectic month! The Patriots started off the season rolling with decisive wins versus TMI and Cole. Carrying that momentum, FEAST Softball earned a solid 4th place showing in the Navarro ISD tournament going 5 and 1 outscoring the opponents 80 to 18.

The following week was a frigid one in Llano that was cut short due to weather. The girls toughed out playing 3 games, going 1-2 against solid competition, where the wind chill was in the upper 20s! After thawing out from Llano, we headed to the Seguin ISD tourney. While the record there was 2-4, we took victories against solid Alamo Heights and Jourdanton teams. Capping off the season so far was an amazing opportunity for the team to play against Incarnate Word High School on the University of Incarnate Word’s beautiful new field. This was a statement game for Patriots Softball with a narrow loss of 8-9 in extra innings.
Patriots Softball has just five regular season games left and hosted the State Tournament in Seguin at the end of March (watch for an exciting summary next month!). Their eye is absolutely on the prize with a trip to the National Association of Christian Athletes (NACA) Homeschool Tournament in Tennessee. This will be the Patriots’ first trip to this tourney in the program’s young four-year existence.
As a side note, there is a friendly home run competition with Freshman/Sophomore versus Junior/ Senior players. The upper class currently leads 11-6. Yes -these girls can launch BOMBS!!

Announcing 2021-22 Softball Commissioner: Coach Doug O’Neal!

We’re excited to see Doug return as Commissioner for the fourth year! Doug has been a constant member of the coaching staff for five years and will continue to serve as Varsity Head Coach. Doug grew up with a love for sports participating in baseball, basketball, and BMX racing. He began his coaching career when he was in high school, and has coached fast-pitch softball for 13 years and tallies over 300 wins under his belt.
Doug loves working with young people and strives to help each child become the best versions of themselves. Athletics is a very effective tool he uses to help children learn in their development into young adults as sports teaches them not only about the game, but also about life. “Believe in the system,” is a phrase players often hear from Doug, and another one is, “We play a half inning at a time.” The FEAST Team Biblical Verse has been 1 Corinthians 9:24, NLT: “Don’t you realize that in a race everyone runs, but only one person gets the prize? So run to win!”

Doug is happily married to his wife, Kelly, and has three daughters: Stephanie, Hailey, and Kylie. He and his wife have homeschooled their children for 15 years. Doug says that he feels blessed to be a part of an organization that allows homeschooled children to play sports and he looks forward to the future of FEAST Softball.
Thank you for your continued service, Doug!

Girls’ Middle School (MS) Softball: ISAL CHAMPIONS!

What an exciting first full season for our MS girls! FEAST seeded an impressive first place in ISAL (Independent School Athletic League) by going undefeated in every game. These girls showed grit and determination in the ISAL tournament semi-final game as they entered the last inning trailing 2 – 6. But the bats were hot and FEAST pulled out a win with a score of 7 – 6 on a walk-off home run! Next up was the ISAL tourney championship!
Believe it or not, the championship was even more of a nail-biter as our girls left it all on the field! In an exciting tie-breaker, FEAST defeated Geneva for the ISAL championship! We are so proud of how these girls came together as individual players and grew into an impressive team this season. They worked hard at every practice and game, and never gave up or got discouraged in the play-offs! GREAT JOB, PATRIOTS!
We’re looking for MS Softball players! Ten of our twelve MS players will move up to high school next year. Please get the word out to 11-13 year old girls (6-8th grade) – no experience necessary!

FEAST MS Softball, in its first full season, went undefeated, winning first place in the ISAL (Independent School Athletic League)!

MIDDLE SCHOOL: Last year, we assembled for what was to be FEAST’s inaugural middle school softball season. One game was played before Covid hit, and we all know how the rest of the year went. Coming back in 2021, we had an even larger turnout and gained another coach!
In softball, pitchers and catchers are as good as gold, and we are blessed with impressive talent in both positions. We are strong from top to bottom in our batting order and every player was a contributor on the field. We’re incredibly proud of individual improvements and overall team effort. And what a season it turned out to be!
FEAST MS Softball, in its first full season, went undefeated, winning first place in the ISAL (Independent School Athletic League)! The team showed grit and determination in our ISAL tournament semi-final game, entering the last inning trailing 2-6. Our bats got hot and we came back to win 7-6 on a walk-off homerun! FEAST HS Softball’s season has come to an end.
HIGH SCHOOL: Despite a trying 2021 season, this Varsity team accomplished more than any other FEAST Varsity softball team has in the past! For the first time, our ladies were ranked in the Top 5 Private School Softball Weekly Rankings by VYPE for three weeks! We ranked #4 for two weeks and for one week at number 5.
Our program continues to grow under the current leadership, and our future looks good!
Head Coach Doug O’Neal echoed those thoughts to the Varsity team. “This was the best overall year for the program. We may not have had the best record, but overall, by far the best! 2021 Patriots Softball was the year that put our program on the map, and teams were gunning for the Patriots.” 2021 was also the first year that the Patriots went up against both public and private schools ranging from 2A-5A in size. Congratulations, ladies!
