June 2022

It was not far into my homeschool journey that I realized I needed a place to belong. I am a people person: I like to be around others and share experiences, life accomplishments, hardships, and the joys of overcoming them. Making friends for me and my kids!

“A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.” Proverbs 18:24

My children were young when we joined our first group, it was a PE class that met two times a week. Both of my children quickly found friends in the class. They also learned not only to be accountable to someone besides mom and dad, but the joy of having a mentor in their instructors. This experience repeated itself time and time again over the years. We explored through music lessons, co-ops, park day, field trip groups, clubs, and sports. Each group brought with it a different dynamic. There were different families, different personalities, and different types of leadership. Through it all, we learned which groups were a good fit, and the ones we did not quite feel like we belonged.

So if you find your homeschool needing a little something, take time this summer to find a group. Some groups are intense, some are relaxed, while others have a driven purpose. The group you choose should be one that is beneficial and has an atmosphere that feels right for your family. If you search and don’t experience that environment, contact me and let’s figure out a way to start your own group. Whether that means by yourself or working with a friend, we are here to help! We will assist you in setting up, deciding if you want to be formal or informal, showing you the ropes of running a group, and best of all, helping you create that place where you belong. Those who you choose will become “your people’’. Like minded, striving together, supporting one another, and building lifelong friendships.

“Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted. Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.” Galatians 6:1-2

My prayer is that you would soon find a place where you feel like you belong. Where you can be you and the kids are free to be themselves. It is not euphoric, it is a real place. Find it!

Let the search begin!
