Capitol Days

CAPITOL DAYS (2017 THSC)

HSC Capitol Days is the ultimate hands-on experience in state government and a valuable tool for lobbying the Texas Legislature on current issues of importance. Students and families meet in Austin for activities and training in the legislative process. In the morning session they will learn about current pending legislation important to Texas home schoolers. After, lunch attendees will reconvene, divide into teams, and spend the afternoon at the Texas State Capitol delivering provided packets and lobbying the home school position to legislators and their staff.

Tentative Schedule:

8:15am – Registration/Check in Opens
9am – Welcome and Introductions
9:15am – How a Bill Becomes a Law
10:15am – Break
10:30am – Legislative Issues Training/Lobbying Tips/Role Playing
Noon – Lunch Break
1-1:30pm – Begin Meeting with Legislators at Capitol
3:30pm – Debriefing in Extension Auditorium
4pm – Closing and Adjournment

Champions fore Charity

Champions fore Charity is a fundraising program that provides participating charities and schools the opportunity to generate contributions through the Valero Texas Open. Champions fore Charity is a no-cost program that gives 100% of the funds raised back to the participating organizations, plus incentives including a 7% match.
